Speaking About Others While Having Little Knowledge Yourself – Shaykh Saalih As-Suhaymee.

Shaykh Saalih bin Sa’d as-Suhaymee said, “Some of them talk to you like if they are Yahya ibn Ma’een (one of the greatest scholars of Islam from the salafi) or Ahmad ibn Hanbal!

We see that some students, due to their weak taqwa (fear Allah), have nothing else to do than speaking about people (i.e. speaking about other salafis – laymen, students of knowledge and even scholars). Despite their limited knowledge which they possess. They have appointed themselves as scholars of al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel (criticism and praise)! They have filled the garbage dump (i.e. the internet) with it!

By this they have neither caused victory for Islam, nor pulled down (weakened) the disbelievers, nor are they of benefit to the Ummah!

Some of them talk to you like if they are Yahya ibn Ma’een or Ahmad ibn Hanbal, while they might not even know how to perform the wudoo properly!

This is what troubles us (the scholars of Salafiyyah) in these times. It does not conform with the speech of the Prophet (peace be upon him):

“Fear Allah wherever you are, follow up a bad deed with a good deed and deal with the people in a nice way.”

Leave these matters for the ones who are qualified for it (the scholars). Be humble before Allah, because the one who shows humbleness towards Allah will be elevated. Leave the big matters to the specialised major scholars who excel. Those who have a long history in serving the Sunnah, Aqeedah and Islam.

Therefore, that which is desirable for the Muslims in general and the students specifically, is that taqwa occupies them in secret and publically, and day and night, if they want to achieve the pleasure of Allah and the correct knowledge from the Book and the Sunnah.”
