Ali Ibn Abi Talib said:

“I warn you against following men! For indeed a man will do the deeds of the people of paradise and then change, while Allah knew that he would resort to such behavior, and then he will do the deeds of the people of hell-fire, die upon such behavior and thus enter the hell-fire. And a man will do the deeds of the people of the hell-fire and then change, while Allah knew that he would resort to such behavior, and then he will do the deeds of the people of paradise, die upon such behavior and thus enter paradise. If you have to follow anyone, then follow those who are dead (i.e. Sahabah) and not those who are alive. “
